Trends
January 9, 2024I’ve been a photographer for a number of decades. Something I’ve noticed is that, like all styles, trends in our business change. Dresses change. Tuxedos change. Flowers change. And photography changes as well. Why does it matter?
As a photographer that has seen dozens of trends come and go I’ve come to realize something. While it’s important to please a client with imagery that is going to look great on the wall of their contemporary new home, it’s also important to stay tethered to classic, timeless roots. Because as the years march by, trendy looks will become dated but classically produced images will stand the test of time.
I mean, let’s get serious here for a minute, does any modern bride want a picture that represents her and her new husband as floating heads in a brandy snifter? Of course not! Someday when we look back at a couple of the modern trends we may, likewise, wonder “what were we thinking?”
When you look at the work on our site, hopefully you’ll see our classic roots shine through. We try to keep it balanced. We don’t want to stray too far from the mark. As an educator as well as photographer I always make sure I teach new photographers to please the bride but not to forget about grandma. Because if you’re appealing to grandma, chances are good that the images will hold their own for decades.
Is your photographer appealing to you and grandma?
